Your Long-Distance Move Made Easy: An Interview with Luis Gonzalez of Swift Movers

By Luis Gonzalez

Tell us a little bit about your company and the services you offer.

Currently, I only provide one crew at a time to control the kind of service customers get. About 80% of our business is from repeat and referral customers. We jump into moving as a way to exercise therefore we move faster and have a more positive attitude than the average mover who is there to make a paycheck. It's really about the positive attitude a mover can bring to a stressful situation that makes all the difference

Can you walk through a quick timeline for a long-distance move from the estimate to the final move?

We keep our long distance moves simple. It's just a matter of figuring how many moving truck we will need and how far you are going. Based off that information we provide a flat price over the phone or in person. We ask for half down deposit 5 days prior to the move date. Once it's time for the move, we don't charge extra for any particular items. If it fits in the moving truck, we take it.

If you were moving, what would you look for in a potential moving company?

I Know first hand of some unethical moving companies who have a polish "A+" grade on BBB. It's almost impossible to know what kind of movers you will get unless you ask for certain movers themselves (which is the best way).

How accurate are the estimates for long-distance moves? What is guaranteed pricing?

Our estimates for long distance moves are always right on the money. If we tell our customers is will be $838.28 then it won't be a penny more.

What type of insurance/guarantee do customers have that all of their belongings will arrive at their new home in the same condition as before?

We offer minimum coverage of $300,000 Liability and $10,000 cargo insurance. Anything less than $1000 worth of damage is covered at 60 cents per pound per article. Many customers think that just cause a moving company in Licensed and insured means their move is fully covered which is false thinking. Full coverage move range from $120-$150 per hour and take more time because how careful movers must be. We use techniques that save the customer a lot of money so we can't offer the same coverage when we are moving boxes someone else pack or when we are walking over obstacles children are putting in the way. In short, the customer plays a big part in the kind of move we will do, and the liability is on them under $1000. Normally, when something does go wrong, it is our attitude that always makes the customer at ease and understands things happen. Most local movers offer the 60 cent per pound coverage but unfortunately the customer finds out about it only after the paper is signed and when something goes wrong. I know I lose sells for this because we bring this up from the beginning.

Do you have any advice to help people make their move as easy as possible?

I have list that can help a lot when hiring movers www.swiftmoverz.com/how-to-make-your-move-swifter

What's the best way for people to contact you and your company?

Phone and email is the best. When I do in-home estimates, I know the customer is always nervous about having strangers handle their belonging and i always give them my personal cell and welcome them to text me if they have any question no matter what time it is, I like the customer to have all their questions answer before the move. It removes a lot of anxiety and helps make the move easier.
