Unleash Your Creative Side at Frisco's Paint Party Studio, Sip-n-Doodle

By Courtney Clark

Frisco residents can paint the town red, or any color, with Sip-n-Doodle Paint Party Studio, a local business that doesn't just create art but also creates artists. The classes allow people to paint what they want regardless of experience level. Customers can choose from over 700 images the artist has available, or they can bring their own.

Sip-n-Doodle is the brainchild of Allison Thorpe. Years ago, Thorpe attended a paint-by-number class and had such a good time that she decided to make it a living. Upon moving to the Dallas area in 2010, she began to build up her own version of paint classes. She started by using restaurants' down time in McKinney Square, and the business grew from there.

What makes Thorpe's style different from all of the other painting classes? Normally when a customer attends a wine and paint class, everyone paints the same image. However, Sip-n-Doodle gives customers hundreds of options, and customers can even bring their own image to paint. This lets guests relax and not compare their work to their neighbor's, all while maintaining originality and ensuring everyone paints to their tastes.

"Everyone can paint what they want ? we show you how it is done," Thorpe says. "Everyone has an artistic side and we tap back into it using our Reckless Abandon? method." This way may seem like chaos, but "there is a method to the madness," Thorpe explains. Basically, customers just play in the paint with some guidance by the Lead Artist.

Those who have never painted before need not worry. Thorpe promises that everyone will leave with a painting the artist will be proud to display. The idea is for guests to have fun, relax, and tap into their creative side.

At the end of the class, the students can choose if they want to hang their product at home. If so, they can opt to have a ribbon attached to the top, or they can purchase frames for a classy display.

Of course, what's the Doodle without the Sip? Guests are welcome to bring their own snacks or drinks to enjoy over the course of the evening. Thorpe says the studio supplies cups, openers, ice, and even popcorn for those who don't bring snacks.

Sip-n-Doodle's fun and success are supported by Internet reviews. Yelp, Groupon, and TripAdvisor each give the studio 4 or more stars out of 5. The classes are great for co-workers, bachelorette parties, and more. Regardless of the reason for attending, the website explains the result well: "You will never look at art the same again!"
