The Price Of Moving: How Much Will It Cost To Relocate?

By Tabitha Naylor

If you are planning a big move, there are some things that you will need to think about when you are considering how much it will cost. Of course, these things will depend on where you are moving from and where you are moving to. If the distance is longer, the price is going to be higher. Make sure that before you think about calling a moving van you take the time to write down a budget and everything that will cost you money when you move. If you have finally decided that you are moving to Texas, here are some of the things that you will need to factor into your budget to get a rough estimate of how much moving will cost.

Packing Supplies And Boxes

When you are moving, you can expect that you will be using boxes of all sizes, tape and packing supplies like foam and newspaper to wrap your fragile items. Typically, small boxes will cost you anywhere from $1.00 - $2.00, medium boxes will run anywhere from $2.50 - $3.75 and the larger boxes will cost around $4.00. To save money on your packaging items you can talk with department stores or gas stations around your area for boxes and newspaper. Generally, the items that they sell come in boxes that they will throw away. You can pick up some of these and the outdated newspapers to use when you move.

Fees For Rental Trucks

When you are making the move to Texas, you may be considering a rental truck. The price that you pay for renting a moving truck will depend on three things: the company that you rent from, the size of the truck and how far you are moving. U-Haul is one of the most popular companies that rent out their trucks for those moving all over the world. The sizes of the trucks that they offer range from cargo vans and pick ups for small moving jobs up to 26' trucks for moving a home with four or more bedrooms. For ease of access, you can use their site to determine the price that you will pay to use one of their trucks for moving.

Choosing Professional Movers

If work was the reason for your move and you need to leave for Texas before you have time to finish packing and moving, professional movers might be a wise choice. Not only will these movers pack and load all of your items for you, but they will also drive the truck to your new home and unload everything for you. There are some things that you need to think about regarding cost when you hire professional movers. You need to think about how much it costs for the labor, the distance, the gas, the insurance and the time. Based on your distance, you would most likely be looking at a total anywhere from $350 to $5,000 for the entire move.

Refreshments And Food

One thing that most people don't think about when they are moving is the cost of food. Since you will most likely be driving anywhere from 3 hours to 5 days, you need to make sure that you set money aside for food. If you would rather just make the drive quick, you could pack lunches or bring along non-perishable foods to snack on for the drive.
