The Magic and Science of Clockmaking with Spring's Moore Time

By S. Mathur

Clocks and clockmakers carry deep rooted cultural images going back hundreds of years. From magical clocks made by old men living deep in the woods to the graceful timepieces of the Renaissance turning in time with the designs of the Creator to the stunning simplicity of the Movado museum watch, ways of keeping time have imprinted themselves deeply in our consciousness. Customers at Moore Time can find many of these on display and sale, making a trip to the store more like a visit to the museum.

Owner Kathy Moore says that "Moore Time has the largest selection of clocks, watches and fine collectibles in the area. Our clocks and music boxes are imported from all over the world, and are chosen to appeal to everyone from the average person to the most discerning collectors. We sell the newest trends to the antique treasures of our past."

Moore Time has been located in Spring TX since the beginning. Moore says "We seem to be a natural fit for this area...first opened in Old Town Spring in the year 2000. After operating our family business for 13 years in Kingwood, we opened a second location in Old Town Spring and found our niche. Since then, we have focus our entire operations here."

Moore Time also repairs all kinds of timepieces: "We not only sell a wide variety of timepieces, collectibles and music boxes from all over the world, but we also service and restore them as well." Carrying on a great tradition, the skilled horologists will also make house calls: "Clock repair takes a great deal of patience and a good understanding of the theories of timekeeping and mechanics that span hundreds of years of development. We service the latest innovations as well as timekeepers and musicals that may be up to 400 years old, or older. It takes a wide scope of experience and knowledge to accomplish that." Antique and heirloom restoration, appraisal and insurance services help clock owners preserve their cherished timepieces.

Moore Time functions as a combination of traditional clock repair workshop and family owned business, says Moore: "We have one Master Horologist, Kevin Moore, with more than 40 years of experience, a fourth generation Swiss Watchmaker, Hanspeter Krophf, and Kevin's son Benjamin, known as "Big Ben" who has been working along side his father for 15 years now. Kathy Moore, "Mom" keeps everyone and everything going and makes sure our customers are pleased with their experience with us. Most of our other employees have been related to us or soon joined the family!"

The store is in process of going online, and the full inventory of clocks, music boxes, antiques and collectibles will be listed on the website for sale. But the experience of a personal visit to the store and a chat with the expert clockmakers can't be beat. Moore says that "We make it our mission to give everyone a great experience when they come in and hope they leave wanting to come back and see more."
