Nestled on West Davis Street in Dallas, Texas, The Kessler is more than a concert venue and restaurant. The Kessler is a slice of history that anyone with a thirst for great music- or a love for Art Deco design- can enjoy.
Edwin Cabaniss explains that The Kessler that was one of the last art deco movie theaters built in the U.S. prior to World War II. "It has a colorful history including once being owned by Gene Autry, taking a direct hit from the Tornado in the 1950's and surviving a 3 alarm fire in 1960s," Cabaniss says. After that fire, the theater did not have any entertainment for 40 years before it was re-opened in 2010. Today, it is one of the most respected venues in the state.
Cabaniss says that when the Kessler "was purposely rebuilt as an intimate performance space with emphasis on the artist and the audience connection." This type of attention to audience experience has made The Kessler a beloved Texas venue. In 2014, it was named "Best Live Music Venue" at the Best of Dallas Awards. In addition the Kessler, has been named "Best Music Venue and the Dallas A-List along with winning countless other "Best Music Venue" or "Best Performing Arts Center"in 2013, 2011 and 2010.
The Kessler receives rave reviews from publications all over the country. Pete Freedman of Central Track calls it "the best run, most consistent venue in all of North Texas" and Ben Fountain of the New York Times states, "The Kessler Theater is?an Art Deco beauty."
