Sojourn Church Welcomes Anyone Seeking Heightened Spirituality

By Elizabeth R. Elstien

A home meeting in 1983 based on a life-changing spiritual encounter of founders Terry and Susan Moore soon grew into more regular meetings of a small group of nondenominational people who worship Jesus. Not intending to become an "official" church, Terry became full- time pastor in 1986 leaving his professional career in real estate and oil & gas behind. By 1987 the group was meeting regularly in a few temporary locations. Sojourn Church found a permanent home in 1997 when they purchase their property in Carrollton and built the church where they still worship today. Since its inception, Sojourn has officially planted three additional churches in the metroplex.

Sojourn welcomes new members looking for a heightened spiritual experience. They invite new members to participate in Catch the Vision, a membership class. At this Sunday morning class, newcomers will learn about the community and ways they can belong. They believe participating in small groups is the way people can connect with God and each other.

Emphasizing prayer within our individual lives and communities, locally and nationally; mission efforts statewide and to international localities, along with continual dynamic worship, Sojourn spreads the message of the Kingdom of God. Hundreds of Sojourn members have participated in domestic and foreign mission trips to spread the word. Sojourn partners with Care Center Ministries and Reconciliation Outreach, both inner-city ministries in Dallas.

They also minister to the community by offering Healing Prayer every other week. They also invite speakers from around the world, including Chad Dedmon, Bill Johnson, Kelly Shackelford, David Barton and others to come and share with the congregation. Continual prayer is an important part of the church, as it is constant communion with God. Being a lighthouse of prayer invited people to experience a meaningful relationship with God, His son Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
