Save Up Those Nickels and Come Have Some Fun at Garland's Nickelrama Entertainment Center

By Courtney Clark

Garland residents can get a dose of nostalgia at NickelRama, a high-quality arcade that has been around since 1996. Using only nickels, guests can play a variety of games new and old at an affordable price. NickelRama is ideal for all ages and all kinds of events.

Owner and General Manager Ray Fraser says NickelRama began "with the unique concept of offering high quality Arcade Games to the general public at an affordable price." More than this, however, was their desire to appeal to a wide demographic. The founders wanted not just kids but also teens, parents, and even the elderly to enjoy the arcade atmosphere. "We wanted to be a place that created a 'wow' factor," Fraser explains.

The 'wow' factor comes into play with the range of excellent games that can be enjoyed with only nickels. Why this particular coin? "We concluded that the nostalgic value and interest in a real nickel couldn't be beat," Fraser says. Games that would use quarters would now use nickels; if a game typically called for four quarters, a guest would use four nickels and save a great deal of money. This also lets them play for hours at a time instead of minutes. Customers can bring their own nickels, get them from a cashier, or get change from a machine.

NickelRama's selection of arcade games can't be beaten. Popular new games include GhostBusters and the SpongeBob coin pusher, while phone app games such as Crossy Roads, Candy Crush, and Flappy Birds are available in arcade versions. The arcade has an incredible selection of pinball games, and classic games such as Space Invaders and versions of Pac-Man are also available.

Like a typical gaming facility, guests are able to play for tickets to redeem for prizes. "Nickelrama has prided itself over the years with arguably the largest redemption prize counter in the entire area," the website proclaims. Customers can play for an Annoying Orange, Chinese finger traps, Slinkees, oversized Teddy bears, fuzzy dice, and much more.

The arcade is a great destination for events, as well. The place is popular for youth groups, field trips, day cares, birthdays, sports teams, and even business events. Guests can bring their own snacks and drinks and enjoy group rates and reservations.

Though NickelRama plays the nostalgia card with classic games that accept only nickels, the arcade is far from outdated with its new games and fun prizes. Whether going for an entertaining night out with the family or planning a party or event, guests are sure to have fun with the variety of games available.
