NAMS Takes No-Curriculum Approach to Music, Arts

By Kelly Church

NAMS, which stands for Neighborhood Art & Music School, offers classes in arts and music in Frisco, TX. Aspiring artists and musicians are welcomed to NAMS for lessons, recording services, art classes and even film classes, to hone their skills. Levi Bradford, owner of NAMS, said the facility offers so much for students who want to excel in their field.

"We have dedicated our environment and culture to create an atmosphere where music, art and the pursuit of it is at the center," Bradford said. "NAMS is not just a lesson facility and recording studio, it's a community. It's a place where you can be accepted, encouraged and free to explore the gifting inside of you."

Classes at NAMS don't have a curriculum, so each lesson is catered to the individual and what they need. Music classes include guitar, piano, drums, bass and voice. Art classes are offered for the individual to explore their creativity on their own, and as instructor-guided classes. Film students follow a similar format, with individual and instructor-led classes.

"All classes and lessons at NAMS are designed to show the student what is possible in the creative arts," Bradford said. "If you don't know what's possible, how can you determine where to go?"

Bradford believes that the teachers at NAMS give students a blank slate in their medium, showing them everything that's possible in an environment that makes exploring new things comfortable.

For musicians who want to make their music official, the NAMS recording studio is home to experienced producers, and sound and mixing engineers to help perfect audio. Musicians can buy studio time, producing, mixing, and audio and scoring, or all of the above.

"Music is a mystery," Bradford said. "It's emotive, it's spiritual and it has the capability to change hearts. It's important because it's good and it's good because it is."
