Krystal Methenitis Captures the Innocent Joy of Childhood at Dallas' KM Photo Studio

By Paul Rowe

Krystal Methenitis has harbored a passion for photography since she was nine years old. Many years later, Methenitis's experiences with children and love for art mesh together perfectly at KM Photo Studio, the company she owns and pours her soul into.

"My Poppy taught me how to use his old manual Canon film camera and I was hooked from the beginning," Methenitis said. "After having my first son in 2009, I began sharing images online, and friends began asking me to be their photographer, so we decided it was time to make the business official."

In early 2010, Methenitis became the proud owner of KM Photo Studio in the far north of Dallas. The studio's growth has boomed ever since. Every day, Methenitis is thrilled to play a small part in the lives of parents and their children.

Browsing the KM Photo Studio website, one sees snapshots of real moments capturing the rawness and purity of authentic emotion. These are images that loved ones cherish passing down for generations. Methenitis's natural approach to photography helps her stand out among other Dallas area photographers who might over process images or who might not appreciate the beauty of a natural smile. It is uncanny how Methenitis is able to capture the joy on a child's face. Getting kids to laugh is one of her specialties.

"Newborn babies are one of my favorite subjects to photograph. They are precious," Methenitis said. "So new, so perfect and such a miracle. Many might think photographing newborns and toddlers is hard, but I think it's the best! It can definitely be challenging, but in the end it's always fun."

Many of Methenitis's clients call her The Baby Whisperer for good reason. Her baby, child, and family work draws deeply from her experiences working in childcare, as a private nanny, and as an advocate for children prior to being a full-time photographer. These experiences intensify her understanding of photography and its important role in the lives of families. These images draw us closer, enrich our personal relationships, and remind us of cherished moments of our lives. Parents are continually impressed by Methanitis's calming presence in their lives and homes.

"Many of my clients take home several calming techniques from our sessions," Methenitis said. "I'm able to keep parents calm throughout our sessions. Beforehand, we plan as much as possible, and I'm always available for consults that help everything run smoothly."

The experience is calming, the memories enduring. KM Photo Studio is always thrilled to meet new families and begin to tell their life stories through images that last generations.
