Keeping Irving Classy with Live Music, Billiards, and Mouthwatering Steak

By Courtney Clark

Cool River Café is an upscale steakhouse and southwestern grille saddled up in Irving. The restaurant is famous not only for dining and beverages, but also for its Cigar and Cognac Lounge, entertainment options, and private dining facilities. Cool River began, according to the website, with a question: What does the guest really want?

The owners discovered that guests "crave a place to go for date night or happy hour after a long workday", or somewhere to bring the family or business associates. To meet all of these needs, the restaurant was board. With large fireplaces, high ceilings, and stone, leather, and wooden accents and décor throughout, the atmosphere is cozy yet upscale- warm yet classy.

The building is 22,000 square feet and is split in half. On the left side guests will find a formal dining room and two private event spaces, while the right side offers a bar area, three billiard rooms, large projector screens, and the Cigar and Cognac Lounge. The last of these is perfect for diners who enjoy a relaxing smoke and cocktail before dinner. The most popular space at the restaurant, the Cognac Lounge captivates guests with bookshelves, leather couches, hardwood floors, and an elegant chandelier.

There are a total of eight spaces available at Cool River. Besides the Cognac Lounge, there are also rooms such as the Ben Carpenter and Rio Grande, while the Upper Deck boasts entertainment value. The Deck is available for private parties of up to 56 guests. With a large HDTV, several tables, and a live entertainment stage, the room is fitting for a variety of events.

Guests who fancy a drink can enjoy a selection from the award-winning wine list, or they can indulge in a hand-crafted cocktail. Servers can suggest what pairs best with the diverse menu options. Diners are in for a treat with entrees such as the Delta Blues Barbeque Ribs or the Pasta Olvera, the latter of which is a delicious combination of hickory-grilled chicken and shrimp on trumpet pasta with peppers in a spice cream sauce.

To finish off lunch or dinner with a bang, guests can choose the Crème Brûlée, the five-layer chocolate cake, or the Makers Mark Pecan Bread Pudding. Cool River Café is known for far more than just its excellent dining fare. With many entertainment options, such as live shows, sports games, and billiards, guests are sure to find something to do before, during, or after their meals.
