Joseph Mark Photography: Capturing Your Happiest Moments

By Marina Jokic

Transitioning from photojournalism to wedding photography, Joseph and Stephanie Ellis made a big career change and haven't looked back. Capturing newlyweds in some of their happiest moments has been a passion for this photographer couple. They are the inseparable team that owns Joseph Mark Photography in Carrollton, Texas.

The Ellises have been photographing for most of their adult lives. Joseph shares that he has been taking photos since he was ten years old, having felt a budding curiosity for capturing moments on camera from an early age.

"I began by studying photojournalism in hopes of working for National Geographic, but found my home in telling the stories of the amazing couples who I photograph every week during one of the most important moments in their lives," he says. Having worked in the news business for a long time, Joseph felt the constant pressure of moving from story to story at a blinding rate. He and his wife were looking to make their shared passion a mutual career and set their own work pace.

"With weddings, the images may not matter to many people, but for one family they mean everything, and I love that," he says. Stephanie and Joseph aspire to create not only beautiful images, but more importantly, to capture the unique personalities of the couples they are photographing, which is a skill that takes time to develop. "If we can capture that in our images, they will truly be something that a family will love to share for generations," Stephanie adds.

To the Ellises, wedding photography can be broken down into two kinds of images: those that are captured by watching and anticipating moments as they happen, all about the story of the wedding day, and portraiture, which focuses on creatively understanding how to make beautiful images through the use of posing, lighting and location. Portraits can give a glimpse into people's personal feelings, and can be especially revealing. Engagement portraits are particularly special, as they celebrate the happy moment of two people finding each other in the world.

Is it difficult to capture unique and touching moments at a wedding? Joseph and Stephanie don't think so anymore as they consider themselves seasoned photographers. "I tell couples when they come to meet us for the first time that one of the key skills that we have developed over the years of photographing is just the ability to anticipate moments, and when you work with us, it is our goal to always be in the right place at the right time," adds Joseph reassuringly. Perfect photographic moments unfold naturally, and the trick is to recognize them on time and take the shot.

Joseph and Stephanie are a husband and wife team that has worked together since they were first married. Their strong bond carries well into their professional life and they are well attuned to each other's working styles. Their years of experience in photography, adaptability to change, and their quick thinking make them some of the best photography professionals in the area.

"We will work as hard as humanly possible to make the day stress- free and effortless for every couple while at the same time making sure we get the images they need," Joseph says. Being quick on your feet is essential to capturing good shots. The Ellises have an extensive portfolio of their work on their website, attesting to their abilities.
