Uncle Uber's Sammich Shop gets rave reviews from diners and critics alike. It's where you go for the best Sammiches and burgers in Dallas, made from the freshest ingredients. Owners Kathy and Bryan Crelly say that "We strive to make food using real, whole ingredients. No pre-chopped veggies or pre-cooked meat here. It takes us 2 1/2 hours to prep everyday before we open, because we are chopping and making things from scratch, the way food should be enjoyed."
The Deep Ellum eatery opened in 2011, but the Crellys have been part of the Dallas food scene since the early '90s. In fact, they're the recognized burger experts. Uncle Uber is their fifth venture, and they picked the name because "We felt it went along with the funky, relaxed, casual vibe we were hoping to bring to the area with our nostalgic decor from the 70's and 80's. We just wanted to be that comfortable place you could come as you were and get good grub."
The most popular Sammich is the nearly legendary Shaved Ribeye Steak: "It comes in as whole ribeye and we shave it every morning. It has grilled red onions, bleu cheese crumbles, chopped romaine, sliced tomatoes and our own roasted garlic mayo on a toasty baguette." Other customer favorites are the Cuban, the Blackened Fish, and the Vietnamese-inspired BunMe, which can be filled with vegetables or flavored pork. The Happy Hippie has cheese and vegetables on hippy bread. The Bacon and Goat Cheese is Uncle Uber's take on the BLT and the combination tastes great.
The burgers can be customized with a selection of toppings. The hand cut fries come with the famous secret sauce, which has customers puzzling over the ingredients as they mop it up. And to finish off, there's homemade ice cream. Uncle Uber's started as a lunchtime joint, and the long line on the pavement outside has become an area landmark. Fortunately for famished office workers and tourists, the line moves fast. Evening hours were added due to popular demand, as was a beer menu. There are weekday Happy Hours and trivia on Wednesday nights. Seven TVs tuned to the sports channel make it a good place to hang out with friends.
The Shaved Ribeye Steak Sammich and the Uncle Uber Burger are routinely awarded the "Best of Dallas" nominations. Customers say the same thing, in more picturesque language.
"Delicious food, amazing prices, and hilarious decor. Literally, what else can you want from a restaurant in the Deep Ellum area. This place doesn't get enough love for how great it is!"
"Shaved steak ribeye sammich was excellent! Who would of thought blue cheese crumbles matched well with steak? Only a genius. Fries are comparable to Mooyah's except Ubers is better seasoned. The secret sauce is in the same family as Cane's chicken but unique in its own right. Pulled pork sandwich was on point testified by my dad. And no complaints on the double patty bacon cheeseburger."
