Introducing the 'Memory Makers Who Happen to Be Bakers'

By Kelly Church

Three Brothers Bakery of Houston is a family-owned bakery with more than five-generations of bakers. Opened by the Polish-born Jucker brothers in 1949, the now very successful business got off to a rocky start.

Without any customer parking, the bakery struggled to make a profit until they moved their bakery to Almeda street, and later to its current location on South Braeswood- with plenty of customer parking. Now the bakery is thriving with three locations in Houston, TX and having been featured on many Houston media outlets, including ABC, Zagat and USA Today.

"We are the stewards of a legacy, which began with my great, great grandparents in Poland around 1825," Co-Owner Bobby Jucker says. "I am a fifth-generation baker, having taken the bakery over from my father and his two brothers, the original three brothers, who came to Houston following their liberation during World War II. I wanted to stay involved in the business because I grew up in the bakery; it was my babysitter and I learned the trade from my dad and uncles, which grew into a passion as I got older."

Jucker says Three Brothers Bakery specializes in creating "custom life-cycle event cakes." This includes cakes for a wedding, birthday, baby shower, gender reveal, anniversary, bar or bat mitzvah, quincinera or any other event. Customers can even use the Three Brothers Bakery build-a-cake service on the website, allowing them to pick from a variety of cake templates and customize the flavor, fondant, colors and writing style.

The bakery also makes pecan pies, rye and challah bread, hamentaschen and gingerbread men. The gingerbread men, in fact, became so popular that they now sell year-round. When the bakery first opened in the 1940s, they specialized in bread, baking the types of bread that their customers grew up eating. This sense of tradition runs strong throughout the company, with their many generations of bakers who want to carve a special place in the lives of their customers.

"We say we are 'Memory makers who happen to be bakers,' because people grow up coming to our bakery. We are there for them through major life milestones," Jucker says. "Every time you enjoy something from our bakery, we give a piece of our history and lives to you. We are very dedicated to what we do, and our customers are our family."
