Houston's District 7 Grill Prides Itself on Providing Healthy Options to Patrons For All Three Meals

By Courtney Clark

District 7 Grill has been serving up delicious fare in the Houston area for over a decade. In that time, the restaurants have grown to six locations all around downtown. With a knack for healthy fare and something for everyone, District 7 is a must-see.

Shelley Elham and husband Babak opened District 7 Grill fourteen years ago in what is casually known as EaDo (East Downtown Houston). Elham explains the goal is to serve high quality, delicious, and affordable prices.

"The dishes that make their way onto our menus are often a result of how we eat at home," she says, "and eating healthily is central to us." As a result, the menu features an extensive selection of lean meats and fish with bursts of different flavors.

For those into clean eating like the Elhams, District 7 has you covered from breakfast to dinner. Stop in during morning hours for an egg white omelet served with spinach, onion, and tomato, among other omelet options.

Guests can also try "breadfast": entrees served on low calorie naan, with options like the veggie (mushrooms, onion, peppers) or the spinach (spinach, egg, tomatoes, pecans). For lunch, try healthy options like the rosemary grilled chicken or district salads, grilled salmon, seared sushi tuna, or the garden entrée. And for dinner, start with a spinach salad before moving on to a turkey burger or grilled chicken sandwich paired with sweet potato fries or a salad.

Of course, sometimes we just need something to satisfy the taste buds even if it's not what the trainer recommends. District 7 still has that covered with breakfast entrees of French toast and biscuits and gravy and lunches and dinners such as the four cheese pizza.

For those feeling extra hungry, the restaurant offers a three course dinner meal. Guests can start with the lump crab cake, tuna tartare, or the district salad before moving on to the hines pork osso bucco, the beef tenderloin, or the sesame soy glazed salmon. Finally, finish off with crème brulee, bread pudding, or assorted cakes.

There is no doubt that the food at District 7 Grill is full of healthy and delicious flavors. However, aside from the fare, the restaurant aims to please with a relaxed and clean environment that appeals to customers from all walks of life. As Elham says, "No matter what your walk of life is, no matter what you're in the mood for, you are bound to have a great experience with us."
