Far from Cookie-Cutter Hospitality at Arlington's Sanford House Inn & Spa

By Elizabeth R. Elstien

This oasis is real. Can you see it in the heart of downtown Arlington? It's a mix of classic and modern elegance located in the heart of downtown Arlington. Known as The Sanford House Inn & Spa. Yes, this oasis is a boutique bed-and breakfast that customizes each guest's hospitality experience. Owner Joan Bergstrom and her two daughters, hotel General Manager Valerie Landry and Restaurant506's Maître D' Camille McDonald, know that many guests consider this hotel a home away from home.

As a Southern mansion, the Inn has many hideaways for guests, weddings, events or meditation, each its own oasis: a vegetation-rich courtyard, 12 unique accommodations with names such as Beethoven and Vivaldi, a spa catering to women and men and Restaurant506.

The restaurant serves "inspired American" food created with seasonal ingredients. Open for lunch four days a week and serving fine dining in the evenings on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The Van Gogh Bar and Lounge is open during dining hours.

Guests especially like the luxurious and quiet Cottage Suites with California king-size beds, two-person Jacuzzis, and private gated parking. "The Cottage Suites are located just off the Grand Courtyard, "Landry describes, "which gives guests easy access to the grounds and plenty of privacy for a relaxing stay."

Landry assures us that a stay at The Sanford House Inn & Spa is not "cookie-cutter" or "average". The hotel's caring team, she promises, "strives to personally connect with guests to build a relationship that endures". A taste of the homemade cookies in your room tells you this oasis is definitely not a figment of your imagination, but an award-winning inn with, as Landry says, "radical hospitality."
