Atlas Floors Carpet One is a third generation family-owned business specializing in the sales & installation of high quality floor coverings. Our main flooring categories are carpet, hardwood, laminate, vinyl, and ceramic & porcelain tile.
Establishing a budget is a very important first step before beginning the shopping process.
Decide whether or not you want to have the flooring professionally installed or if you want to do it yourself. Doing it yourself may save you some money, but professional installation typically takes less time, less waste, and will be warranted by the company who furnishes the service.
If you are planning on selling your home in a few years, it may be more practical to go back with a soft surface, or inexpensive flooring option. However, if you plan on living in this home for a while, you may want a lifelong product like a beautiful hardwood or porcelain tile floor that will never have to be replaced again.
The typical process of purchasing new flooring goes like this: Visit a flooring showroom, check out samples from them, and schedule an in-home estimate. Once you have made your final style and color selections, and are happy with your estimate, you sign the contract and put a deposit down. The floor covering company will then order all the materials and once all ETAs are established, installation dates are scheduled. On the day of the installation, the crew will walk the area with the customer to make sure everyone is on the same page. Another walkthrough will be completed after the installation as well to make sure the customer is completely satisfied, and the balance is collected.
It is very important to select a floor covering product that is suitable for the area's use. Make sure to tell the floor covering professional whom you are working with about the room and your family. Here are a few questions that I like to ask which lead me to make appropriate product recommendations: Will there be children or pets using the room? Is this a high or low traffic area? What type of activities will be going on in the room? How much maintenance are you willing to spend to keep this flooring looking new? What do you like about your current floor covering? What do you dislike about your current floor covering?
My favorite flooring product to work with has to be ceramic and porcelain tile floors. With an endless array of styles, colors, sizes, custom patterns, listellos, and mosaics, each project becomes a piece of artwork unique to itself. The other benefit to a ceramic or porcelain floor is that it is extremely durable product that should last a lifetime and add value to a home. A close second to tile flooring would be hardwood floors, which also add value to your home. There is nothing that matches the warmth and beauty that a real hardwood floor can add to an area.
I recommend taking some rough measurements of your house to get an idea of the square footage, and then add a 10% waste factor. If you have a total dollar amount and total square footage amount in mind, you will know what price per square foot dollar range you need to concentrate on when you begin to shop.
