Designated the official art agency of Frisco, TX, Frisco Arts is a 501(c)(3) organization that has been serving the community since 1996. As a nonprofit, the primary purpose of Frisco Arts is to advance arts in the city by expanding artistic, educational and cultural opportunities, and serve as the liaison for city funding for local arts groups. Frisco Arts has recently rebranded with a new logo and website, which offers a central FrisGO Arts calendar of events for the community to post performances, concerts, and art exhibitions.
"Frisco Arts welcomes and supports both creators and consumers of art," says Frisco Arts President Tammy Meinershagen. "Music, dance, theatre, visual art and the written word have all had a significant impact in history and they compose the heart and soul of a city."
Frisco Arts is built on a foundation of very specific core values: unifying the community, collaborating with outside organizations, enriching lives through art education, supporting the highest quality of artistic programming, engaging a diverse population, impacting each individual on a personal level, and maintaining the highest level of ethical standards. In short, the goal is to weave the arts into the daily fabric of Frisco, making it relatable to the community.
To encourage the most community engagement, Frisco Arts has launched the FrisGO Arts online calendar, an initiative that allows all community members to add their own art-related events to one central calendar that other people can view. Patrons can search by event type: live music, concerts, theatre productions, art exhibits, just to name a few.
Though Frisco is the fastest-growing city in the nation, physical properties in the area for theatre, gallery exhibits, and musical events are extremely limited. Because there is high demand for public performing space beyond the 100-seat Black Box Theatre at the Frisco Discovery Center, Frisco Association for the Arts is currently advocating for a new creative arts center that would be a true home for the arts in Frisco.
Additionally, Frisco Arts provides scholarships for local high school students and college students that are pursuing careers in the arts. Through the Frisco Education Foundation Scholarship Program and the Collin College Arts Scholarship, two students each year are awarded a monetary scholarship to support their education, just one way that Frisco Arts is actively working towards their mission on a yearly basis.
"Art gives us time to reflect, it inspires creativity and it unites a community," Meinershagen says. "Each of us has a unique perspective, and when it is shared through the universal language of art, it has the power to change lives."
