Flower Masters Speak the Language of Emotions

By S. Mathur

Perhaps a love of flowers is a human universal emotion, though their meanings vary at different times and in different places Sheri A. Jentsch, Owner and Creative Director at Blumen-Meisters Flower Market New Braunfels, TX thinks that "What we do in the floral industry is sell emotion. That is the reason flowers are associated with major life events. I don't believe people outside the floral industry truly understand the importance of what we do in floristry. In all major life events, we as florists have one opportunity to get it right."

For Jentsch herself, her love of flowers was inherited from her grandmother: "I suspect I got my passion for flowers from my maternal Grandmother. She always had a beautiful yard and I remember helping her with it and discussing flowers." And her decision to abandon her job in New York City to open a flower market in her hometown was the expression of a number of emotions that built up over time.

"After my education, my work transferred me to New York. I worked at an Environmental and Occupational Health Consulting firm. I managed my Company's litigation division. I always knew that I was a creative person. It was killing my soul to be caged in an office in the concrete jungle that New York City is. In January of 1999, The Small Business Association and Victoria Magazine sponsored a seminar titled "Turning your Passions in to Profits". It was held at the World Trade Center Marriott which was subsequently destroyed after 9/11. I will never forget it. That seminar changed my life. Shortly after the seminar, I returned home to New Braunfels and purchased Blumen Meisters Flower Market."

New Braunfels is a small community with German roots and the name Blumen Meisters honors this heritage. It means Flower Master in German. A formal description of Blumen Meisters would say that it is a "full service florist offering local and national floral delivery." But there's much more to it, says Jentsch: "I would say that Blumen Meister's is best known for its unique creativeness in the floral marketplace. We have created our own style that isn't seen coming out of traditional flower shops. When you order a Blumen Style arrangement, you are getting a piece of nature. A piece of floral art. We create multiple layers of floral components and natural elements. Every time you look at one of our pieces, you will see something different."

While customers only see the end product in the form of uniquely beautiful floral arrangements, it takes a lot of hard work behind the scenes. The key ingredients, says Jentsch, are "Relentless determination to provide trend setting designs, the freshest product and customer satisfaction are the greatest keys to my success. There are hours of planning, procuring the correct product that go into each of these special occasions. You have to be passionate and detail oriented to survive in this type of business."

Blumen-Meisters prides itself on quality customer service and green initiatives like recycling vases. The blog on the store website has some fascinating information on the language of flowers, culinary uses of rose petals, and more to gladden the flower-lover's heart.
