Experience Love and Leadership at Katy's The Fellowship

By Courtney Clark

The Fellowship is bringing the community together in Katy, Texas. Rather than focusing more on religion or church itself, The Fellowship helps guide guests to God and to life's ultimate meaning. With over two decades of history, this church welcomes all with open arms.

The Fellowship's roots date back to 1993, when founder Jerry Edmonson found himself being pulled away from a position as a Teaching Pastor. Instead, he was compelled to begin what the website describes as "a different kind of church, committed to reaching people who were seeking and searching for answers to their spiritual questions."

Today, the church maintains several groups and ministries for all ages and walks of life. One such example is the Family Ministry, which aims to strengthen families by connecting singles, couples, and by providing parents with valuable skills to encourage their children. Children up to fifth grade are invited to join The Fellowship Kids, which provides youth with a safe, loving environment in which they will learn the ways of faith.

A support group ministry is even offered: Merimnao, a Greek word that carries a spiritual concept of "broken-heartedness," is the name of an overarching ministry that provides groups for women, men, divorcees, parents, and more who are going through difficult seasons of life.

Perhaps one of the Fellowship's most well-known and suggested activities is Faithwalking. Beginning with the Faithwalking 101 Retreat, this community is designed to "explore the meaning of radical obedience with God and the characteristics of an authentic community that reflects God's Kingdom." Overall, Faithwalking is "spiritual formation process that really helps you find where God is at work- and to join him." As Pastor Edmonson explains, Faithwalking is designed to give you the tools for spiritual transformation and missional living.

Members are also invited to become involved in Worship Arts. Covering a variety of interests, Worship Arts include technical arts, vocal teams, and a band comprised of a variety of instruments. This is the perfect opportunity for those who would like to use their talents for worship. If members feel compelled to help in a more compassionate environment, they can join one of the several groups that participates in community outreach as "the hands and feet of Christ;" Friends of Sundown, Compassion Katy, Katy Christian Ministries, Christ Clinic, and KEYS Mentoring are just a few.

Overall, The Fellowship's mission is to become a whole people taking the whole gospel to the whole world. As the website promises, The Fellowship continues to work towards that mission by focusing on being an "effective, creative, innovative church" that reaches, grows, loves, and serves.
