Dosey Doe Brings Music, Meals, and Spirits in an Intimate Listening Room

By Elizabeth R. Elstien

As Production Manager Kelly Schroeder describes it, "Dosey Doe is one of the greatest listening rooms in the country. We use the term listening room over concert venue, because many people associate concert venue with the words 'loud', 'crowded', and 'standing room only'." Dosey Doe provides an intimate music experience that is anything but noisy with incredible acoustics and a quiet atmosphere.

Now with three very different locations. The original Dosey Doe venue is a 168-year-old tobacco barn shipped in pieces from Kentucky on a flat-bed truck to the Woodlands at Interstate 45 and Rayford/Sawdust and named, for obvious reasons, The Big Barn. Artists that have graced this barn structure include Vince Gill, Dave Mason and Leon Russell. Most show tickets include a three-course meal in comfortable seating just 30 feet from the stage, and brunch is served on Saturday and Sunday. Listeners can order from the full-service bar.

The Big Barn also serves, as Schroeder says, "the best coffee in the state of Texas and roasted fresh daily onsite." The Woodlands is also home to their newest establishment, The Dosey Doe Coffee Shop, at Research Forest and Alden Bridge.

The old barn wood and quaint environment make The Big Barn a unique event space. "Whether it's a work luncheon or party, or a reception or wedding, or even a big birthday bash, we are the perfect venue for all of the above," Schroeder tells us. "We provide catering, live music and a friendly staff to make your event special."

Want to hear some music from local musicians? The Music Café in Conroe, just a few miles north of The Big Barn, fits the bill. Here Texas artists, as well as those from surrounding areas, come to get down and funky. Folk Family Revival, David Ramirez, Samantha Fish, Rhett Butler, Kris Allen and Mike Zito have all been on the bill. Patrons pay an affordable cover charge to get in the door during show time, but diners can come any time to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner.

"We host eclectic genres of music here at Dosey Doe," exclaims Schroeder! While there are many country artists, you can also find almost any genre you're interested in- Rock, Soul, Jazz, Alternative. You name it, we've probably had it."

Dosey Doe makes the music experience easy. Listeners can purchase tickets online before noon the day of the show. Their new Internet radio station lets you hear music from upcoming artists and shows recorded at Dosey Doe, so you don't have to wonder if you'll like an artist's music before you spend those hard-earned dollars on a pair of tickets.
