Dance Your Way into Shape with the Help of Dallas's Studio 22

By Marina Jokic

Modeled after the most successful dance studio in Los Angeles and catering to beginning to advanced-level adult students, and anyone in between, Studio 22 is a famous venue for dilettantes and experts alike. Ranked Dallas A-List's "Best Dance Studio" for three consecutive years from 2011 to 2013 and runner-up in 2015, featured in D Weddings magazine, and a programming partner for Klyde Warren Park, Studio 22 is also the studio of choice for Dallas-area competitors on ABC's Dancing with the Stars.

Founded by Michelle Hafle and Sergey Korshunov, Studio 22 attracts some of the best instructors in the country, who are very passionate about the styles they teach. The most popular classes are the social styles, which are geared towards dancers who want to feel confident on the dance floor. For those who enjoy traveling, there are also local and destination outings, including dance cruises, competition events for spectators and competitors, social getaways, and other events.

"If you're looking to feel comfortable on a dance floor, searching for something to add more passion into your life, or are simply trying to find a fun way to get in shape, then the dance community at Studio 22 is the right place for you," says Molly Wagoner, Studio and Events Manager. With over a hundred group classes taught every month, as well as weekly social activities, private lessons, and wedding instruction, the studio is committed to affordable programs that are fun and approachable.

Private lessons are tailored according to skill level as well as discipline and occasion. For instance, some want to prepare for choreography at a wedding or master a particularly challenging move. Others might want a fun date activity or prefer learning in a one-on-one setting.

In addition to being a gratifying social activity and a great exercise, dancing has been shown to have numerous health benefits, improving memory, balance, and coordination, preventing diseases like osteoporosis and dementia, maintaining and improving cardiovascular health, and raising endorphin levels. Not only does dance provide a great social outlet, it also allows people opportunities to experience the diversity of other cultures through music and through interacting with members of the dance community, Wagoner points out.

Partner dancing is one way that people can strike up new and exciting friendships while polishing their Salsa, Swing, Country Western, Tango or Ballroom dancing skills.

Rest assured, learning at Studio 22 will not break your bank. Classes are typically attended by twenty to sixty people, and are economically priced from $11 to $16.50 per class, depending on the payment option one chooses. For those interested in competing professionally, there are a variety of opportunities including studio showcases, team performances, and Pro-Am competition.
