Cook and Dine at the Main Course Cooking School

By Marina Jokic

Executive Chef of the Main Course Cooking School, Lawrence Fogarty, enjoys traveling and learning new cuisines and dishes. Working at Main Course Cooking School has given her a chance to be immersed in the culinary arts, the latest equipment and accoutrements, and the hottest trends. Since 2012, executive chef Lawrence Fogerty has led the MC team, the MC Barbeque and Southern Kitchen, and led catering and events as well. A native to Houston, Fogarty studied at California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, and worked at Neiman Marcus in Texas and California for some time.

The MC school's partnership with MainStreet America, a master homebuilder based in Texas, allows the school to tap multiple appliance vendors. The MainStreet America complex consists of an expansive design showroom that allows the school to showcase various kitchen equipment and products while also holding their cooking classes in a cutting-edge kitchen.

Accommodating up to 24 people in a single class, MC has larger capacity than other cooking schools, while also offering individualized instruction and the utmost attention to their students.

"We have had great success and a loyal following," Fogarty said. Pricing their classes reasonably helps the school attract plenty of clientele. People are always eager to sign up for classes, whether they happen to be novices or experienced chefs.

Some of the most popular sessions are themed wine dinners and date night events, Valentine's classes offered each February, Southern Comfort classes, Haute Cuisine: Exploring Fine Dining, and Creole Cooking. Great American Steakhouses and the Sin City Steakhouse classes cover a number of signature steak recipes and preparation methods, including barbecuing.

There are a slew of classes covering everything from surf and turf and infant cooking to fine dining. The curriculum offerings are impressively thorough for novices and experts alike. You can book a private cooking class for team building or for a date night. Demo dining experiences, kids cooking, and special celebrations are also available.

The kitchen which the MC school occupies can host larger cooking events than its regular classes since they have access to other larger facilities on the premises of the MainStreet America complex. The main kitchen where the classes are held is comprised of six independent work stations, all equipped with GE appliances and two Advantium radiant heat ovens.
