City Running Tours: Grab Your Sneakers and Go See the City

By Elisha Neubauer

Austin is full of amazing views and fantastic venues. A city that is quickly growing in popularity, Austin also has a reputation for healthy living. If you're looking to go sightseeing in Austin, why not book a tour with City Running Tours?

The founding of CRT sounds like the American dream. While the company now has permanent locations in 16 cities, it began with one man. Michael Gazaleh, a New York City orthopedist, used to take visiting friends and family for jogs around the city to show them around where he lived. He began doing this so often that he realized he was sitting on a business opportunity. The company took off swiftly and has now spread across the nation. It has been featured on the Today show and recommended by TripAdvisor and Running USA.

When asked what makes running through a city different than typical sightseeing, Lee Ackerley, CRT's Texas manager, responded, "Being herded like cattle onto a giant tour bus, or wearing a goofy Segway helmet while running locals off the sidewalk, doesn't ring true to an authentic local experience. Learning about a town's most famous landmarks and uncovering its lesser known gems, all while earning the right to pig out on local fare later, is much more visceral and satisfying." Runners get to explore Austin, socialize, and end the day with beer and food at a local eatery.

CRT can accommodate customized time frames and routes for a more personalized run- or you can book a pre-formed tour such as the Ghost and Bats night tour, Downtown Historic route, or the Texas Beer 5K.

Whether new to town, just visiting, or looking to try something different, a running tour is a great place to start. CRT covers natural settings, historic places, and best of all, some of the local breweries and bars- and you get to meet new people along the way. With City Running Tours, you get to know the city and get in shape at the same time!
