Celebrating the Livest Music in Texas at McGonigel's Mucky Duck

By Elisha Neubauer

For those who are looking for something to do in Houston, McGonigel's Mucky Duck is always a viable option. There's always something happening at this unique facility, with an entourage of live music available ranging from children's programming to twenty-one and up events.

Providing exceptional live music to the Houston public since 1990, McGonigel's Mucky Duck claims to have "The Livest Music in Texas," and one look at their line-up will prove that to be quite true indeed.

McGonigel's Mucky Duck has more than just a unique name going for it. It is a full service restaurant, offering a wide selection of specialty beers and an impressive wine list. Dinner is served during a live concert experience, making for an eclectic evening. The menu itself is remarkable, offering an Irish Pub and Restaurant menu, including options such as Welsh Rarebit, Pub Salads, and Beef Guinness.

When it comes to the music, McGonigel's Mucky Duck really has it all worked out. "We are an intimate music venue focused on artists performing original music," states Rusty Andrews, owner of this unique venue. "We have singer-songwriters perform with their band and/or solo." Such performances include American Aquarium's Bj Barham, Rhett Miller of the Old 97's, and White Ghost Shivers, with a wide range in between.

With such a vast array of musicians, what exactly is McGonigel's focus? Is it the music, the food, the artists . . . perhaps a combination? "We focus on presenting music in a listening room atmosphere," Andrews tells us. "We have hosted artists as varied as Jeff Daniels and Zac Brown. Recently, we have featured Hayes Carll and Bob Schneider."

The velvet curtains, plush seating, and Irish pub atmosphere all add to the intimate concert venue's ambiance; making the night truly stunning. Let's not forget the state of the art equipment, appropriate mood lighting, and, of course, the eye catching wooden bar with built-in barrels.

In addition to the live concert performances they host, the Mucky Duck does unique themed nights as well. They are home to such events as Game Night-Irish Session, Fathers & Sons night, and a monthly Open Mic. Tee-shirts, hats, and children's merchandise is available for the devoted Mucky Duck fan, or someone just looking to relive the memory of an awesome concert.

Live music will never go out of style, nor will the authentic Irish Pub experience. And when you combine the two- well, you're guaranteed to have a night to remember. You've got to hand it to McGonigle's Mucky Duck, they've got the blend just right, as their Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence points out.
