Business Meets Magic at Sweet Pea Events

By Elisha Neubauer

A wedding can be magical event, or it can be an utter disaster. Having the right team behind you on your special day can make all the difference between a catastrophic experience and a seamless ceremony that you'll cherish for years to come. A knack for orchestrating these enchanting occasions and a deep seeded love for entrepreneurship is what led Kelly Simants into the wedding planning business back in 2007.

Although Simants, owner of Sweet Pea Events in Plano, Texas, originally got her start in business through the corporate world, she was no stranger to the entrepreneur lifestyle. "My Dad was an Entrepreneur, so I always had the itch to start my own business," Simants explained to us.

After several years as Director of Human Resources for Starbucks Coffee, Simants opted to branch out and took a position as a wedding coordinator for her local church. She soon realized she had a talent, and a profound love, for the wedding industry. "I love hosting celebratory events and seeing a vision come to life through décor and planning," says Simants. "It's an honor to be a part of a couple's special day and to help them take some stress off and guide them through the process."

On top of being enamored with the creative side of the business, Simants found her business background was a wonderful addition to her new profession. "I love the creative side of this industry, but also love the business side just as much and am always strategizing on what to do next," she tells us. "I have the ability to not only be creative, but my strengths lie in managing timelines, budgets, logistics and people."

It is this business background that helps Sweet Pea Events stand apart from their many competitors. One of the most important skills you learn in big business is to network- it takes a village to run a successful business; it can't, and shouldn't, be done alone. Simants' aptitude for this vital business skill is well-proven in Sweet Pea Events. "We are matchmakers in the industry. We have an amazing network of colleagues we can call on, especially in an emergency," she says. "We love to pair the best wedding pros with the client's style and budget."

If Simants' background and passion for the industry isn't enough, their previous customers can't seem to stop raving about them. WeddingWire.com, a national go-to site for everything wedding related, has Sweet Pea Events ranked at an outstanding 4.9 out of 5 stars.

"Words cannot do justice to our outstanding experience with Kelly Simants and Sweet Pea Events," one WeddingWire reviewer states. "Throughout the process we felt there truly wasn't anything she couldn't make happen. Because of this, we had absolutely no stress on the wedding day as we were certain everything would be right. And the proof is in the final product."

Although business is a large part of her background, and an integral part of managing her own company, Simants isn't in it for the numbers side of things. The delight of seeing the happy couple on their big day is what really drives her. "I truly believe the most important thing to keep in mind for the bride and groom's experience is to not lose sight of WHY they're getting married," Simants tells us. "It's easy to get caught up in Pinterest, all of the details, which are so important. It is about the wedding day, but mostly about the marriage that extends beyond that day."
