Build Your Shape at Dancers Shape

By Jake Levin

The second you walk through the doors of Dancers Shape, you'll feel a chic yet warm vibe, according to owner Jennifer McCamish.

Since opening in 2010, Dancers Shape has committed to providing a superior product at the highest level of customer service at its Austin, Texas location.

"Dancers Shape is a place where clients can learn how to take care of their bodies and be part of a community that inspires healthy living while having fun in a sophisticated and friendly environment," McCamish said.

Clients come in all shapes and sizes, from those coming off of a surgery and needing rehab, to those simply wanting to stay in shape, ranging from senior citizens to professional athletes.

Pilates is the signature workout at Dancers Shape, in part because it strengthens the entire core. McCamish said that she thinks of Pilates as the superior cross-training technique and refers to it as a daily dose of rehab and injury prevention.

McCamish explained the importance of working out the core while also pointing out that it is not just the abs, the glamour muscles people tend to associate with the core.

"[The core] means the shoulder girdle to the pelvic girdle and everything in between," she said. "The exercises themselves train the deep stabilizer muscles to work in conjunction with the big muscle groups."

All of this core work through Pilates helps to stabilize the torso, which means all peripheral movement becomes pain free, McCamish said.

Other benefits from core work include improved balance, posture, flexibility and coordination. Yoga and several other mind body techniques are also practiced at Dancers Shape, which is important for calm mindfulness in every day life.

"By slowing down and focusing on your breath you can calm the central nervous system and quiet the mind, an imperative for stress relief," McCamish said of the yoga aspect.

Dancers Shape is located at 5350 Burnet Rd., Suite 7 in Austin, Texas and is opening a second location October 1, 2017 inside of Hill Country Indoor in the Bee Cave area. To learn more about the studio, visit its website. www.dancersshape.com
