Brandi Thompson Photography Specializes in the 'Business of Smiles'

By Kelly Church

Saying she's in the "business of smiles," Brandi Thompson is the namesake of Carrollton, TX photography company, Brandi Thompson Photography. Thompson took a hobby that started in 2004 and turned it into a lucrative business in 2008 while taking college courses. She now has more than eight years of experience with her own photography company and can work with all ages.

"I believe I stand out from other photographers in a variety of ways," Thompson says. "One of the biggest is that my clients truly become part of a family. I think photography is such an intimate business, and I really put my heart into it to create something unique for each client. I don't just recreate things I've seen, but really try and give them something special."

Thompson keeps her pricing simple to keep the session as adaptable for each person's lifestyle. She charges $250 for boutique portrait sessions that can take up to two hours and feature different locations and wardrobes. She also offers mini sessions for kids between the ages of three months and three years old. They're held in her studio in Plano and she says they're perfect for those milestone moments that someone would want to capture.

"I love being a photographer because it combines emotion with art," Thompson says. "I think it's so special to be able to capture emotions and personality in a moment, because it changes so quickly. But, I also get to use my love of art and creativity to make it something unique. I love photographing babies and toddlers because they are so real and honest."

Thompson, who has two children of her own, says she loves photographing kids since they grow and change so quickly. She loves giving parents the opportunity to remember their kids at those ages, saying "it's wonderful to be able to freeze who they are at that time." Although working with kids presents "unique challenges," Thompson says she has learned many tricks over the years to keeping kids happy and cooperative during photo shoots. She says the key is to working with who they are, which she does.

"I am a quirky and unique individual and I think that translates into my work," Thompson says. "There are so many photographers out there; it really comes down to personality and so I try and translate my own honesty into my work."
