All You Needed to Know About Gutter Cleaning: An Interview with Lori Otto of Gutter Professionals of Greater Houston, LLC

By Lori Otto

Please tell us a little bit about your company and the services you offer.

Gutter Professionals of Greater Houston, LLC can install new 5- and 6-inch seamless aluminum gutters, copper gutters, and half-round gutters. We install Gutter Pro Gutter Protection Systems for clog-free gutters, and we also do gutter cleaning and gutter repairs.

What are the basics steps involved in the gutter cleaning process?

We need to thoroughly clean the existing gutters, make sure the pitch is correct so the water will flow to the down spouts and we reseal all the corners, seams, and end caps, as well as clean the gutters to the ground level. Anything going into an underground drain system would then need to be looked at by the homeowner or whomever they have to keep their drainage system clear.

In terms of maintenance, how often should this process be done?

Typically, gutters should be cleaned whenever you notice them not draining properly or you see debris in the gutters. In an area where there are trees, this will need to be done 2 or more times per year. If you live in an area where there are no trees, then you would need to clean when you notice the gutters not draining when it rains.

What are some benefits of having your gutter cleaned regularly?

Keeping your gutters cleaned and properly maintained keeps insects, squirrels, and birds out of your gutters. It also insures that water will not back up from a clogged gutter which can cause fascia damage.

Do you have any tips for homeowners who haven't done much (or any) cleaning and aren't sure what condition their gutters is in?

The best way is to have your gutters inspected. Have your gutters cleaned if you notice water spilling over the front of the gutter when it is raining or you don't see water coming out of the down spouts when it rains.

Do you recommend installing a type of gutter guard in order to prevent build-up in gutters?

Yes.

What advantages does contacting a professional to do the job have?

By contacting a professional, you know the job will be done properly. We will explain to you how our system is installed, have references for you to drive by and see our work, and provide you with a written estimate of the cost of the job.

What's the best way for people to contact you and your company?

They can call us at 713-956-5711 or send us an email to info@gutterprosofhouston.com with their contact information and we will contact them to schedule their estimate.
